Animal Chiropractic Finally Here!

Recently at Barks By The Bay, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Dr. Andrea Sorichetti. Dr. Sorichetti is a Doctor of Chiropractic (human) as well as a fully-trained Doctor of Animal Chiropractic. She has a business here in Quinte West called Quinte Animal Chiropractic, a mobile chiropractic service for dogs, horses and their owners. She offers a holistic approach to improving various health and performance issues and/or injuries in animals. Dr. Andrea helps her animal patients achieve optimal health and functioning via chiropractic care, myofascial release, and rehabilitation exercises.

What is Animal Chiropractic?

Animal chiropractic is a growing area of expertise in animal healthcare. It offers a non-surgical, drug-free, and natural approach to correcting muscle, skeletal, joint (ligament), disc, and nerve problems. Animal chiropractic involves adjustments and joint manipulations (described below), myofascial release and soft tissue work. The aim is to improve joint ranges of motion, decrease muscle tension, decrease pain and improve the overall functioning and quality of life of your pet.
Animal chiropractic does not replace traditional veterinary medicine or surgery but provides a complimentary and sometimes alternative method of care. Veterinarians and animal chiropractors often work together to best serve the needs of the animal.

Animal chiropractic is not just for injured or sick animals. Healthy and athletic animals are prime candidates for chiropractic care. The goal is to be preventative and detect and correct faulty movement patterns that can lead to pain and loss of function. By restoring proper biomechanics, structural alignment and improving joint mobility, animal chiropractic can enhance your pet’s quality of life, ensuring active and healthy years.

What is a chiropractic adjustment/ joint manipulation?

A chiropractic adjustment is a safe, gentle, quick and controlled force directed at the areas of restriction (fixations) in a joint. The goal is to improve motion in the affected joint and thus restore normal biomechanics, allowing for nerves and muscles to function optimally.

SERVICES…

1) Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic treatments help improve the structural alignment and mobility of the spinal column and other joints (hips, shoulders, elbows, knees). Maintaining and improving ranges of motion in your animal’s joints is essential to proper nerve and muscle function. Joints can become restricted and lose range of motion from trauma, injuries, faulty biomechanics or simply degenerative wear and tear. Chiropractic treatments help restore joint range of motion ultimately leading to improved movement, muscular balance, flexibility, stance, and conformation.

2) Myofascial Release

Chiropractic work involves more than just manipulating and adjusting joints. It involves hands-on soft tissue therapy, called myofascial release. Myofascial release aims to loosen up tight muscles and reduce tissue tension.
