Regular routine blood testing is an important part of your cat’s preventive health care. It is a simple way of getting a look at certain body systems that can help determine or detect diseases. Here at Hillcrest Animal Hospital, we do all our routine blood analysis on site with our in-house laboratory system.

Why does my kitty need a blood screen?

Having a blood screen on your cat is a good form of preventative medicine as well as a simple way to detect or diagnose an illness in your pet. We also perform routine blood screening before your pet comes in for any type of surgery to ensure your pet is a good surgical candidate.

How long does it take to get blood test results?

Most blood test can be run and have results on the same day with our in-house laboratory. Some specialty tests do need to be sent out and can have results back in 24hrs.

What precautions should I take before a blood test?

Depending on why your pet requires a blood test our veterinarian will discuss with you any special requirements needed before having the test.

How often should blood tests be done?

Annual testing for cats seven years or younger is ideal and senior pets should have a blood screening twice a year.

Do you also do urinalysis and biopsy?

Along with routine blood work we do recommend a urinalysis as it is a good tool in determining disease process or help detect an early onset of disease.
